Anyway, I called the number and was connected with a service called LiveHelp 247. They proceeded to access my computer and did a diagnostic. They claimed that there was a breach in my firewall and it needed to be fixed. They went ahead and supposedly reestablished the fire wall after almost two hours of messing within my computer.
Then we got into the fees portion. I was to pay a couple hundred dollars for the fix. They then offered me some extended coverage and I opted for a three year plan which would cost me $599.00. I still thought I was dealing with Microsoft and agreed to the amount and the coverage.
They had me complete a service agreement, where I did agree (foolishly) to pay the $599.00 by check.
Since then, I have discovered that the business known as LiveHelp 247 has gone out of business.
Now I am getting harassing phone calls supposedly from the same business and stating that I owe an additional $6800.00 to cover the full network cost and that the original payment was just for the initial fix. When arguing that I was already paid, they stated I could cancel the agreement if I paid a $1200.00 cancellation fee. When I refused they threatened to send it to a collection agency. They even emailed me a bogus statement stating the 599 was only a one time registration and that security costs for the network was the 6800.
After contacting the ScamPulse.com in Minnesota, I was directed to submit this scam report.
The phone harassment is ongoing.
