The email I got read the following. I definitely read this and got a weird vibe. Do not reply to them. I’m glad I googled the email first.

Hello Greetings,

I hope this communication finds you in good health.

John Beck is my name, and I am the coordinator of academic activities as well as the director of special education of HEMET SCHOOL DISTRICT. While researching research online, I came across your contact information. I have to add that your works are extremely creative and intriguing.
I must enlist the help of a talented artist in order to complete this project since I am a person committed to supporting academic success.
I'll lay out the idea of what I need drawn or illustrated, and you can respond with a price to finish it, I require the assistance of an illustrator/cartoonist or animator and I have no doubt in your skill in accomplishing this project. I'm open to working with you since I think you'd be a great fit for our forthcoming 2024 workshop, I’ll give you the ideas of what needs to be illustrated/drawn so you can get back to me with a quote to get it done. Hope to hear from you soon.

Many Thanks.
JOHN.

I am so glad I found out that [email protected] is a scam before I preceded with their "commission" To all my fellow artists out there, this man will reach out to you by email and ask for help but please beware. This is the email i got from him:

"Thanks for your interest in this project & here’s the total breakdown concerning this project;

These illustrations are to be used for a presentation in a Workshop coming up soon, the title of the workshop is PRECAUTION AND PREVENTION. The purpose of this project is solely to educate the students on the importance of taking safety measures when dealing with any given circumstances using the(previous pandemic)illustration scenes as an example. The purpose of this project is to create more and efficient awareness on how to deal with health situations using the Covid as a case study.

The attendees are students between Grade 6-8 ages of 11-13. I require your service to illustrate the under-listed scenarios, and please make it horizontal (Landscape) presentation, It could be cartoon styled(Characters), colored images but plain background.i have attached an image from your portfolio to serve as similar example concerning the characters.

The illustrations should fit on a standard letter size - (8.5 x 11") and delivered in PDF format, and I want exclusive right/perpetuity to the images, also note that these illustrations will be handed out to the participants in a printed form, the workshop will be in two Phases.

We have 2 illustrations in Phase One to be finished in 6 weeks.

Then 3 more illustrations in Phase Two are due for submission before the final event in 10 weeks.

Below is the outline of the scenarios to illustrate for Phase one:

NOTE; The illustrations characters could be represented in Human/Animal form. Most important is the visualization.

*A group (not more than 5) Maintain a safe distance from others (at least 1 meter) Random suggestion “students standing in a hallway”

* A group (not more than 5) Getting vaccinated

Below is the outline of the scenarios to illustrate for Phase Two:

*Scientist in a Lab setting(E.g trying to come up with a vaccine)

* A group (not more than 5) of male and female health workers wearing a mask.

*Road medical rescue( E.g An individual being conveyed to the hospital on emergency)

My budget for the job is $1,000 max per piece($2,00 to cover Phase one and $3,000 to cover all 3 illustrations for phase 2, Total of $5,000) let me know if that's fine. If it's not, please get back to me with the price quote, and what would be your preferred mode of payment? I'm proposing a certified cashier's Check considering the amount involved.Kindly reach out to me if you have more questions as i look forward to hearing from you soon.

Respectfully,

John."

Same as others with fake illustration request. Thought it was legitimate, as they included an illustration from my website and were seemingly specific. It came from JOHN BECK - [email protected]. Once I agreed to the job, they said they would pay me with a cashiers check and asked for my full name, mobile number & name of bank. Thankfully that raised a red flag for me to explore further.

Hey everyone,
I received the following email below, my spider senses were telling someone was off about this email so I googled [email protected] and this site came up so thank you to everyone that reported this email address. I’m extremely grateful and you have helped people to not be scammed.

HELLO,

Good Day, I'm hoping this message finds you well.

My name is John Beck, and I am an academic event organizer(Director of Special Education) and coordinator of academic events. I discovered your contact information while conducting study online and found your contact information. Your works, I must say, are not only imaginative but also creative.
As an individual dedicated to fostering educational excellence, it is imperative that I engage the talents of a skilled artist to bring this project to fruition.
I'll outline the concept for what I need illustrated or drawn, and you can reply with a cost to complete it. I need the service of an illustrator/animator or cartoonist. I’m willing to work with you as I know you’d be a great fit for our forthcoming workshop, I’ll give you the ideas of what needs to be illustrated/drawn so you can get back to me with a quote to get it done. Hope to hear from you soon.

Many Thanks.

Same thing happened to me and the name / school is real too… I hope people aren’t that stupid to fall for this!

I received an email through my contact form on my website requesting an illustration commission. Worded practically word for word as the others reported here.

I had done some research and the person Mr John Woods came up as seemingly a legitimate person.

I did reply and asked for more information and the response was quite convincing. The budget was the giveaway—far too generous for a few illustrated powerpoint slides, and the promise of a cashiers check. Plus, the style of my work was not at all in the style he had requested - very odd and another red flag.

Went with my gut, and finally thought to google the email address: [email protected] . Thankfully found it reported on this site. Next time I get something like this I will check the email address immediately.

Meantime, I sent a response back declining the commission stating that I did not do that type of illustration and I had other commitments, despite the overly large budget.

If I do get a reply back I will be dropping the mask so to speak and let them know I aware its a scam/phishing attack.

I received this email that I know to be a scam. I had received one like this a few months ago and started working on a project when the scammer sent me a fake check for a high dollar amount (over $7,000). I had a feeling it was a scam and the bank confirmed that it was a fake check.

This email is worded almost exactly like the scam that I almost fell for. It says:  "HELLO,

Good day, Hope you're doing well?
