Person identifying as Joseph Silva contacted me via email after I searched the internet for a condo rental in Marco Island. The person claimed they had a condo at Tradewinds available for the dates (Feb. & March 2027) for which I was looking. We agreed on the rental terms and a contract was sent and signed. Contract had a cancellation policy stating Tenant could cancel up to 7 days of move in date with full refund. I wired a $6,000.00 deposit to the bank specified. A few days later (June 23, 2026) I emailed and stated I wanted to cancel the contract as per contractual agreement and to send my refund. The Landlord tried to talk me into continuing with rental agreement, I refused and demanded a refund. At this point the person discontinued all contact. At this point I can not verify if this was the actual owner of the property or an identity thief situation where someone is using the actual owner's identity to perpetrate a scam.
