I was almost out $1820 through an employment phishing scam. I received an interview offer via email for a remote Junior Graphic Designer position from someone claiming to be Nikki Ascher, a real employee of the real marketing agency Jones Knowles Ritchie (New York office), but she was likely being impersonated. I was connected to two fake profiles, Sofia Lewis (interviewer) and Frances Jardine (software partner), on Microsoft Teams and received two phone calls from a man with a New York number (929) throughout the interview process. I didn’t catch the name the man gave. Essentially, they just wanted to collect money ($1820 worth for an iPad Pro and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra phone they claimed I needed to securely work from home) and my identity (signature, driver’s license, proof of address).
