- San Ramon, CA, USA

I was initially contacted by a Jack Ambrose who supposedly works for Probio Pharmaceuticals saying how he received my application on Zip recruiter which was true. He had me answer a few questions as a preliminary before scheduling an interview, but sounded like I was good to move forward. Some of the questions were repetitive. After I answered the questions, he told me that since I lacked the "certifications" to be a pharmaceutical sales rep (even though I've been in medical sales), I need to pay to do a certification before moving forward and pointed me to 3 specific organizations where I can pay to get a certification. Looking deeper into the company I found their website lacked information and seemed like a cover for a fake company. Their parent company seemed the same, and the copyrights were for 2024. When I looked on Linkedin, there were no employees attached to the company and the company had no posts. There was just a description of the company that looked like it could've been generated by AI. There are also a few reddit posts about them taking baking account info. I ended up calling the number they had attached and left a voicemail. They called about 10 minutes later and a very well spoken man was telling me about the hiring process. I told him about my worries and the red flags that I saw. He gave vague and simple answers that did not provide any comfort or reassurance. He got defensive and said he was offended that I was inquiring on whether they were a real company or not. He then told me that he didn't care if I got hired or not. When I asked for proof that his company did exist, he just pointed me to the job postings on a pharmaceutical only job website. Additionally, the first google search when entering the company's name autofilled as "is it real?".
