They pretended to be the IRS website. When I Googled filing for EIN number, the first link, after the sponsored links, was this. They don't say there's a charge for that, so I proceeded and entered all my personal information including SSN, address, phone number, etc. When I finished, it redirected me to a checkout page, which I thought it might be the actual IRS charging form something. After I paid, I received an email saying that my EIN was assigned, which was true, but the email had a lot of links to financial services, which made think, "wait, this doesn't look like the IRS." So I went to the IRS website and found out that the service was supposed to be free. I started a new application and the form was exactly the same, but you didn't have to pay anything. So the scam here is that they charge you for you doing exactly the same thing as you do in the IRS website, and even you get the number immediately in the IRS.

Besides, they say they are members of NSTP, the National Society of Tax Professionals, which is not true. I called that honorable organization to inquire about, and they said they don't have companies as members, just people. When I explained why I was inquiring, they said that they know about that, and the person who held that membership was already expelled from the organization.

So even thou the company has a website, an email address, and terms and conditions in which doesn't say how much they charge, I still think this is a scam, legal businesses don't charge you for having you filing a form that you could file in the original website. Besides, the charge is excessive!

The scammer claimed to be the IRS with an Indian accent

I misdialed, thinking I was dialing the IRS to get my AGI (adjusted gross income) to complete my tax return, when in fact I had dialed the scammer. IRS is 800-908-9946 and I misdialed 800-909-9946. A man with an Indian accent took my debit bank card no but not my acct no, as well as my Soc Sec no, mother’s maiden name, address, etc. at the end he put on a Walmart advertisement and then hung up! The same day he withdrew $1.95 with the reference 1 Perk Place. After that I started getting 1 Perk Place email adverts.

Identified as IRS and threatened to have me arrested or talk to a marshal

I received a call from 405-777-7038 claiming to be the IRS. The number shows up as Potential Spam Caller even though it is a local area code, and when I dial it back it doesn't connect.

IRS Two calls from 938-201-1086 to my daughter's cell phone stating "Hi this is the IRS resource center it looks like you have been flagged and your stimulus payment may be in jeopardy if you do not promptly resolve this important matter”. It is a robotic call. When you call the number, they tell you to call a foreign accented man who claims to be a special agent answers the phone, gives you a phony badge number, and tries to bully you into paying some type of fee to get your stimulus payment. He was very hard to understand, so I didn’t catch all of it, but obviously not real.

- Memphis, TN, USA

Text message included a link stating, "Access benefits here" in regards to the stimulus checks saying that the IRS needed to verify my information today in order to guarantee successful payment. It was very believable and looked official. I might have actually fallen for it but I already received my 2nd stimulus check in my bank account.
