I was contacted by phone and could barely understand the person's English through their indian accent. They explained that they found me online via Dice.com and that they have a client with a role that looks like it would be a great fit for me, with high pay, 6 month contract terms with possibility for extension, no benefits, and a convincing email that they sent while on the phone. The client listed was Ancestry, and their email domain matched their company, which made it seem more legit. However, I still had a weird feeling about the interaction, so I checked the recruiter's linked in to find it has no connections, and then I checked the Ancestry.com career page and found that due to scams, they exclusively hire through directly from their domain. So the entire company domain was created for the scam, to look legit, because we are getting good at checking domains to ensure they match the companies. Watch out. I don't understand why anyone would prey on anyone, let alone vulnerable or desperate people looking for work to take care of their families.

I received a phone call indicating Proctor & Gamble wanted to hire me administrative assistant position. I didn't apply for a position at P&G, and what job hires someone without an interview for a role that I'm sure hundreds would have applied to. She said she got my info from Monster.com, but I didn't use Monster.com during my job search. During the call she asked for my date of birth and middle name and gave me very little information about the potential position. I hung up. When I called back, on several occasions, I did not get an answer. My friend called from her phone and we learned they are claiming to represent P&G through Info Tree Global, however, the position is not listed on the info tree website. P&G does not list an active position listing for the position that was described to me.

I stupidly gave this scammer the last four digits of my social security number and my birth date. She said she found me on Monster. Her initial contact was via email. When I responded how much did the job pay she called me and asked these questions for social and birth date. I feel so stupid to have fallen for this scam. She told me on the phone she was adjusting my resume (and read my positions off to me) and was sending it back to me via email, which she did, for me to look over. I did not open her attachment. She said she was representing Duke Energy. I went to Duke Energy's website and found this notice about fake emails about Duke Energy jobs. She told me she is a true company but I still would not open her attachment. How do I resolve this or am I just screwed? Thanks for listening.
