Home Warranty Direct Reports & Reviews (72)

Received a pink letter that mimics a county recorders letter from the Home Warranty Division of Home Warranty Direct. Knowing this was a scam I called the number just to see what type of information I might be able to obtain. Like the other comments, this letter is extremely misleading and deceptive. I spoke to 9 different sales persons, one supervisor (Jennifer) and a Director (Michael) and everyone of them defended the content of the letter or tried to pass off the wording on their marketing or legal department. There is no doubt that this firm is attempting to mislead and scare individuals into either purchasing their warranty or obtain personally identifiable information (PII) that they could then use to steel from innocent people. I never gave them any information and simply confronted them with their own lying words.

Be aware that your property's address and mortgage company are public records available at county offices at no cost. Scammers undoubtedly hire people to record the records.

Received the same "notice" and fake check from "Home Warranty Direct," a company with no internet presence. The number on the fake "notice" did not work. Called them using the number in the complaint above. Got someone from the department set up to create new accounts who couldn't transfer me to the department that sends out fake notices.

The "notice" said my warranty was "secured" by my mortgage company and may be about to expire. Both statements are lies. My one-year warranty is with a private company and was purchased by the house seller as part of our escrow agreement. It won't expire for another eight months.

I received an extremely deceptive letter from what I thought was a legitimate notice from the LA County about my new home. The notice gives a sense of urgency, but is actually a marketing ploy to buy a home warranty policy. I can see how elderly people can get confused and give their money away to this scam company. I will look into starting a class action lawsuit against this company "Home Warranty Direct" for their intentionally misleading marketing tactics and fraudulently posing as a government agency.

Home Warranty Direct sent a letter to my 89 year old mother on pink paper with misleading wording including: COUNTY DEED RECORDS; FINAL NOTICE; Lienholder; Extremely urgent & time sensitive; Final Attempt to notify you.

It is a marketing pitch for home appliance warranty but is presented in a threatening, confusing way. I called the number to complain and be taken off the mailing list. Phone answerer was extremely rude and condescending and hung up on me.

I received a mailing from a company called Home Warranty Direct. The mailing gives the deceptive appearance that it comes from a county agency, and references County Deed Records. It is actually a solicitation to buy a home warranty policy. I am concerned that someone could be fooled into calling the phone number and purchasing a bogus plan.

This company sent the same mailing to my sister and brother-in-law. Unfortunately, they fell for their tactics and signed up for a 3-year home improvement program which is costing them $177.78 per month, not including the $100 deposit given. My sister is disabled an unable to speak and my brother-in-law only speaks Spanish. I called to cancel the service on 7/13/2022 and spoke with Shannon Newton, who had horrible listening and customer service skills. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she claimed she was the "floor supervisor" and kept on referring me to the contract for instructions on cancelling the service instead of verbally instructing me how to cancel. Long story short, I was finally able to get an address from her to send a request for cancellation; however, now I am not even sure if the she gave me the correct information, as I later googled the address, which belongs to the US Postal Service.

This scammer looks very close to a real business. If I did not already have a home warranty from a legitimate company, I would have fallen victim to this scammer. After taking a close look at the letter I find that:
1. No address for Home Warranty Direct is given anywhere on the "final notice" letter.
2. A sense of urgency that I must call: "Please Call IMMEDIATELY as this will be our FINAL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY YOU 1800-299-4998", the letter demands "IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUIRED".
3. Notice the letter c in the word call is capital, but the the rest of the word is not.
Their 1-800 number is the only contact information given in the letter. Anyone can rent an 800 number for as low as $5/month so it is not a reliable way to verify a business.

i received same letter yesterday and fortunately i called my mortgage company first and confirmed with them and then i googled " county deed records" and found here, thanks for all of you sharing the posts. i will definitely not call them.

but i think they know people's mind very well, they are perfect scammer, pink paper, professional fonts, some capital " FINAL NOTICE", "FINAL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY YOU" " CALL IMMEDIATELY" etc, but the letter is without their address on it which is very sketchy

I received a post card, making it look like it was coming from the County Clerks Office, stating that my Home Warranty was about to expire. I don't even have a warranty on my home. The language they use are scare tactics stating "FINAL NOTICE" and that it will soon be too late before I lose warranty coverage and repairs or product replacement could be very costly. The number to call is listed as 1-800-272-5308, and it was mailed from Ft. Lauderdale Florida. I did a quick search of Home Warranty Scams and the very same card was listed in an article. The advice in the article was to stay away and do not call this company. I typed in the number in another search and ended up here to hopefully help another person from avoiding being scammed. I hope it helps.

My dad Paid over a year of premiums and wanted to cancel rep and manager did not let me cancel even I when I said selling the home and low on cash flow. Lots of red flags when I tried to cancel so that’s when I noticed it was a scam. Looked at the paperwork sent to my dad, no company header, address or email address the weird thing about it the letter said the charge will show up every month as PAYLINK VEH CoV, which does kit make sense. Scam!

My dad was a customer with them for 15 months and have been paying them monthly of $180 per month when he told me about this warranty it sounded sketchy so I called to cancel. The rep did not let me cancel after I stated my concerns he insisted my Dad signed a contract and the contract says you can only cancel the first 30 Days. If you look at the letter you can see there is no return address and the company name is not lost on the header like most companies do. Also when you called to cancel and say you’re selling the home, the rep and manager is unprofessional and stated people always use this excuse to get out of a home warranty which gave me a red flag.. I told them I am selling to home and have no budget for this anymore instead they denied my cancellation and referred me to a payment plan. I got mad and said I don’t need this anymore please cancel the manager did not want to speak nor cancel my warranty and insisted that My dad signed a contract. So I hunted up and will be working with the credit card to stop all future payments.
Scam will not let me cancel warranty

Pink letter, "IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUESTED", "FINAL NOTICE", etc; in very small print at the bottom, the standard disclaimer, "Not all consumers have previous coverage. We are not affiliated with your current mortgage holder."

Received the green letter, all the usual “immediate response”, “limited time”, “you have not contacted us”, “final attempt “, “expiring or expired”, “phone #800-299-4998”, and was addressed to me using my last name from my first marriage (widowed) before my second marriage 17 years ago, from Home Warranty Direct. I don’t have home warranty with any company. Don’t fall for this one.

Just received this notice in the mail to I guess call and renew a warranty on my rental home and I don't even live at the residence I only asked a friend if I could have a letter mailed to her address because I have no home of my own

Received a letter in the mail, stating "IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUESTED" and "EXTREMELY URGENT AND TIME SENSITIVE", and suggesting my coverage for my "covered components" was about to lapse.

I, too, received a "final notice". Mine was on green paper and the wording was the same as stated above. The phone number was also as stated above -. 800-299-4998. I did not have a home warranty, so I googled "home warranty direct". Scam!

No return address. However they try to appear legitimate by mentioning your mortgage holder. Total scam

Received pink letter in the mail requiring immediate response (final notice) with lender info (my bank). The letter implies that my home warranty may be expiring or may have already expired. The letter further states that their records indicate that I have not contacted them to get the home warranty up to date, and please call immediately, as this will be a final attempt to notify. The number to call is 1-800-299-4998.

My wife received a Green BOLD FINAL NOTICE last month from Home Warranty Direct (800-299-4998). No address and no company's name are listed in this flyer. What upset me is that my wife gets this from the mailbox, and has paid more than 3200 for so called 4 years' home warranty. when i came back home from aboard, i took a careful review on this flyer, My wife mistakenly regards this company in the flyer as First American Home Warranty which we used to contract. but actually it is not. when we called 800-299-4998,, and asked for the cancellation of the contract, and we were advised to call 888-682-0650 . the receiver from this phone was apparently unfriendly for our request, and insist on us to mail a cancellation letter to the address he provided, which i searched on google, are apparently not exist. it is totally SCAM.

This happened to my dad too, was there a way to some of the money back? Thank you

Received a letter from this supposed business indicating the home warranty is going to lapse soon. I need to call 888-206-7426 asap to prevent a lapse in coverage.

Received a letter indicating it was the final notice before my home warranty lapsed. I don’t have a home warranty. Very threatening and urgent language.
