I attempted to make a hotel reservation on the Holiday Inn Express website. The site name w[censored]iday Inn Express Ames. I double checked to make sure it was not a third party when I made the reservation, which said Holiday Inn Guest Reservations, so I thought I was set. Turns out it was NOT the hotel site, it was a third party site. A snowstorm hit the midwest the day I was supposed to drive from Chicago to Ames, IA and I attempted to call the hotel to move my reservation one day later, but the hotel did not have my reservation. When I called the number on my reservation, they refused to change or cancel the reservation without charging me one night's stay. I am so tired of these look-alike sites, and I have no idea how to protect myself in the future, when the site literally says the hotel name on it.
