We hired H&C Home Renovations (Tyler and Mike) for a major home project in Virginia Beach, based on a signed contract. They lied to us about being licensed — they are not licensed in Virginia, despite telling us they were.
We paid all but $2,000 of the full contract, totaling over $75,000, and in return received less than $20,000 worth of actual value. Much of the work was incomplete, poorly done, or had to be redone entirely. We’ve already spent an additional $6,000 just to repair the damage they left behind.
The only way they would continue was if we paid them an additional $15,000 in labor, plus more for materials — demanding over $40,000 more on top of the $75K we had already paid. This was after taking nearly the full contract amount upfront and delivering a fraction of the work.
They also belittled us, blamed us for their delays, and mocked us for our preferences — calling us “bougie” for not accepting a $500 vanity we didn’t want. Even when I made it clear I was happy to pay for the materials I chose, they rolled their eyes and dismissed me.
They failed to follow their own contract, dragged the project out with 12 weeks of delays, and treated us with total disrespect. We finally fired them and cut our losses.
Yes — we know we should’ve checked their license. This was our first renovation, and we learned that lesson the most expensive way possible.
But that doesn’t excuse the lies, the manipulation, or the damage. Tyler and Mike should not be working on anyone’s home. Run. Run fast. Do not give them a penny.
We’ve filed formal complaints with the Virginia DPOR and are moving forward with legal action, no matter what it takes. If you’ve had a similar experience, please feel free to reach out. You are not alone.
And for anyone looking at their glowing reviews online — be warned: I personally contacted several of those reviewers. It’s obvious many of them are family, friends, or were tiny low-risk projects. They are not reflective of serious renovation work. Their online reputation is just as misleading as their promises.
