A woman phoned to ask if we were interested in selling our timeshare in Mexico. I answered yes but was not going to send any money for closing costs. They could deduct those off the selling price and send the balance to us. I was assured the buyer was going to pay all the closing costs and their company would take 5% commission but only after we got our money. WE were referred to a Thomas Fort who we dealt with from then on. He asked that we call the wire transfer company, U.S.A. Federal Title Services to set up an account which we did. Believe it o not everything seemed to be above board (I suppose because we really wanted it to be). The whole process took place over a week. WE were behind in our maintenance payments so they had to be paid up to date. I can't believe we did this but we went to our bank and asked for a money wire transfer to the address that we were given in Mexico. The astute bank teller kept asking if we were sure we wanted to do this because once the wire was sent it was a done deal. Yes there were red flags going up but we trusted these people we had been dealing with for the past week. WE no sooner got home when we got a call from RBC to say they had interjected the wire transfer because they had issues with the recipient before. WE have been giving our heads a shake ever since. WE are totally ashamed of ourselves for falling for this but willing to admit to our stupidity if it helps others.
