An ad on Zumper had a rental property advertised. I messaged through Zumper my interest in touring property. I received phon call from a man claiming to be Steve John. He said to go to property and text him. At property on phone with Steve John he instructed me to download app called open door. He talked me through the app and I was required to scan my drivers license in order to have the door unlocked. He said to keep him on phone as I walked through. He told me he is the owner of **** ******* ******** and it was listed for sale. He had not received and good offers so he would take property off the market if I could pay first months rent of $ 1000 and deposit if $ 1000. I suspected this was a scam because the property would rent for far more tha $1000 in the Loveland, CO market. I told him I would contact him in an hour. I saw a real estate agent business card on counter and called the agent. I explained the situation and was told the property is not a rental, is is for sale only. We realized I had been scammed She was concerned and was going to call the owner and get back to me. She was very concerned that I was able to get into the townhome by going through the open door application.
