I was contacted by 'buyer' for a car I had on craigslist. After using the link sent to purchase the VIN car report my Credit Card began being hit with fake charges. Facebook and other accounts hacked from Bangladesh within days. Just realized this was the scam that started the problem when another scammer started the process. I took a look to see if others had this scam and it is really here.....

Type of a scam:Fake Check/Money Order
Pretended to have sent money for an item off of Craigslist in the form of a fake email that looked like it was coming from PayPal to confirm a tracking number and than the following email once the tracking number was sent said money was to be credited to your account when the package was received. PayPal's policy is to direct the money immediately into your account - they do no request a confirmation or tracking number.

I posted a car for sale on Craigslist and I was contacted by someone with the name Frank. He asked me a bunch of questions regarding the car to which I answered. He then asked if I had an auto report and suggested a website www.dmvautoreport.com, he said he wanted to see the report before meeting in person. I visited the website but it looked suspicious, so I proceeded to get the report from a trusted website instead. I sent the info to the email he provided, [email protected]
Next day he texted and asked if I had gotten the report to which I said yes. I sent him a picture of the email confirmation and he never replied back. I tried calling and texting with no luck.
I suspect this person is scamming people out there by trying to get them to go to this fake website.
