I received an offer from a client of Royal Star Properties in Portland , Oregon , to rent 10 weeks of my time share in Cabo San Lucas for $28,000. I signed a contract with the Client , Royal Star , 1st National Escrow Services and me . The client was to reimburse me for any fees or taxes involved in transaction through an escrow fund held at a BBVA Bancomer Bank in Mexico. Once I signed the contract 1st National Escrow started telling me I needed to pay this Mexican tax and this fee and if I did not I would lose all the money I had paid and they would sue for damages . I ended up paying $70,000 before I had a Spanish speaking friend call SAT , Mexico's IRS, and ask them about the requirement to prepay these fees and taxes , SAT said you only pay taxes after you received the rent money and all these taxes and fees would not have to be paid. I was a victim of a scam
