Type of a scam Online Purchase
The first indicator should’ve been the call out of the blue from a a company interested in licensing my patent. They scheduled a call for me to speak with a “licensing agent” and from the moment I got on the call with him he spoke so fast and salesy but was saying “all the things you want to hear”.
Before our second call I did a little more digging and read about a scam alert where at the end of the process they ask for a chunk of money to get started. After they called back to say I’d be selected (and he was so adamant about how excited I should be) I asked them how much it was going to cost.
After he ran through his value prop and got to $4500 for 7% and $8K for 16% I then asked if he can refer me to anyone who’s used their service before in my category that I can speak with. He then goes into a spiral about how they keep their clients confidential and phone references aren’t ever real customers anyway.
I expressed my need for more information aside from the simple brochure he sent with no real info and the generic website. I also stumped him when I ask where the factories are as he replies with “China” and I inquire “what part of China”. He stutters and says “oh different parts, I don’t go to China so not sure, do you know China?” As a matter of fact, I do.
He started to get agitated after that and using phrases like “we can get a million other people who would jump at this chance”. Excuse me sir, Your scam is showing lol. Glad I didn’t get suckered into that scam!
