The exact thing happened to me that the person described above. Sounded fishy to me so I ended the call; she was very updates that I wouldn't bite at the upgrade cost. FTM should take note of this ... I wonder how many people were scammed.

I was trying to sync my Family Tree Maker with Ancestry, and got an error. I googled issues and found the issue stated, and that Family Tree Maker 2017 to 2019 upgrade needed. I was looking at site, and a chat popped up, which asked for my phone number and instructed me that a technician would call. The “tech” had a minor Indian accent accent. He told me that Jane would put a link in the chat that I should click on. It was a download for Ask desk I think. I really do know better however I did click on it I did download it and I did let someone into my computer stupid I know I entered the six digits as instructed then he told me I needed to pay $99 for the upgrade and I said that’s not a small amount and so I’m not gonna do that and hung up, no more action on the chat when I ask questions I’ve been called family tree maker, the real one and they said they didn’t have anybody like that and then I realized I’ve been stupid. I xed out of the software. And I turn off my computer for several days. I reported this to family tree maker, but they didn’t seem to care even though I think they caused the problem by having this known error that they didn’t communicate to their clientele.
