unidentified letter in the mail about cars expiring warranty... fake

- New York, NY, USA • Jun 20, 2025

Scammer sent hysterical letter stating “our records indicate you HAVE NOT CONTACTED us to get your service contract up to date….EXTREMELY URGENT… FINAL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY.” “You will be financially liable for all repairs” to my “2016 JEEP PATRIOT.”

I do not own a JEEP PATRIOT. No contact info given except a phone number.

This “notice” is clearly intended to target older adults whose memory may be impaired.

A 'FINAL NOTICE' to protect existing vehicle warrantee on my two year old vehicle (which is under existing warrantee for three years or 30,000 miles!). Provides my car brand and purchase date. This and similar scams appear to have come because I was looking for trade-in prices from both CARMAX and KELLY BLUE BOOK and gave my vehicle details; no proof but seems there is a link between my action and the scammers trying to sell a extension warrantee or to a continue a 'Service Contract'. No email given by the scammers, no company name given as attempting to appear to be legitimate by association with my car brand.

Our records indicate that you have not contacted us to get your service contract activated. We are informing you that if your factory warranty has expired, you will be responsible for paying any repairs. However, if expired, you can still activate a service contract on your vehicle before it's too late.

Received a letter stating that the factory warranty had expired & I would be financially liable for all repairs. I purchased the car from a Dealer as a used car & they provided me with a warranty. The fee was $169.00 per month for the warranty. When I told them the dealer provided me with a warranty, they hung up on the call.

I received an ad by mail today (12/27/24) from Motor Vehicle Services stating I had a $199 waiver for a very important matter regarding my recently purchased Toyota Tacoma, a final notice. When I called 877-711-1712 the rep said he represented the Toyota corporation and offered me a vehicle warranty from the corporate office, stating the warranty I had bought with my vehicle was a third party warranty and that it was faulty and often did not pay. He stated his warranty would also provide one year free maintenance, including oil changes, brake pads, etc. He would get my original warranty cancled with that original dealer refunding 90% of my $4000 warranty, which could be applied to the $3645 cost of this new and better warranty. Foolishly, I gave him my credt card number for a $100 initial fee to initiate the warrany exchange. He texted me a contract for an on line signing for an esig.line5.com/tcfqum company's document. Somehow, he had obtained at least the last four digits of my wife's SSN though the vehicle was only in MY name! I hestiated signing and said I needed further verification of his company. He said this was a one time deal, and I could not call back if I didn't accept the contract presented. I said I do not wish to continue and he said if he was a scam they would have already taken my money. They DID charge my card!! He said something about reversing the charge but DID NOT. I did not sign and he got more and more talkative trying to convince me to sign. There was no verification that the contract or he had anything to do with Toyota. MY BAD! I was NOT careful enough and was dumb enough to have given him my credit card number. He did NOT reverse the charge. The call ended. I immediately called my CC company and disputed the charge and got a new credit card. This company defrauds and lies to consumers! Totally misrepresented himself and his product and stole my $100. Their ad looks legitimate but is a total fraud. Buyer beware, and look at the details. I was stupid and DID NOT!
