Fake Towing Referral Company Reports & Reviews (1)

- Athens, GA, USA

While I was on vacation my car key battery died and I was locked out of my car. I only had 4% battery on my cellphone and I googled a towing service to see if they could help me get my keys. I clicked the first one that came up and got on the phone with two different customer service reps. The first one was really confusing, he kept asking questions as if he didn't know why I called. for example, I called the number straight through the website the was for towing and auto services but when I said my key battery died he asked if it was to a door (?)

Then, he proceeded to tell me he found someone who could come & it would be $200+ ( I don't remember the actual amount because it was absurd that it would cost that much to me.) I asked him to break the cost down, which he didn't & said it was for equipment, labor, and travel. He lowered it to $200, and since my phone was almost dead I agreed and gave him the CC#. He then transferred me to another rep. This person sounded like a 15 year old girl, young, unsure, very nervous, couldn't get her sentences out, and she begins the call saying that any cancellations after this time would result in a 100% charge & that it would take 45-1 hour for them to arrive (there website said 15-30mins.) I made a comment about this & that it was too long, that my phone would surely be dead but that I might as well wait since I'd be charged regardless & I angrily hung up. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt that because I was in a small town maybe someone from a nearby town had to come (maybe that's why it was so much because of travel) but an hour later a LOCAL towing service (who's business was less than a few miles away showed up.) When he arrived he made the comment that it was weird but the company wanted "a lot of pics of my car" & he also took a pic of my drivers license & license plate. He opened my car & I left.

Later I received the invoice for this company " tow truck.company" where all the information about my car is incorrect, in fact there some things on the invoice I can't even make sense of, it has that I was in Carabelle, FL ( I was) but that serves were issued to somewhere in Texas. (?) I started to look into the company and the name, address, phone number is fake. I google the address and its associate with several scams that have been filed to the BBB.

Today, 3 days later, I woke up to a fraud charge on my card (same card info I gave them.) I've cancelled this card, & then later I received a text from them "checking on the service." I had to ask multiple times for the company name before they would give it to me & they said it was "Quick Towing LLC" which isn't the company on the receipt, and I told them I'd be reporting them to the BBB. I am disputing the charge after it's pending because I don't believe this is a real company, I believe this is a scam, running as a 3rd party towing service to get people's personal information & CC details.
