Facebook group purchase Reports & Reviews (1)

- Newark, OH, USA • Feb 07, 2024

On January 2, 2024, I attempted to purchase a rear fender for my polaris slingshot from a facebook page, listed as Clack slingshot spare parts for sale. I posted a question on their FB page, asking if they had a particular color of fender. A girl named Markia responded and said "yes" they had one available and sent me a picture of it. After I saw the pictures, it was what I was looking for so I asked where they were located and she said Kissimmee Florida. She asked how I wanted to pay for the item, they used cash app or apple pay. I generally do not use either one of those apps, but after asking a bunch of questions, the company seemed legitimate, so asking several more questions, I said that I would go ahead with the purchase of the fender. Markia then asked me to send her the $350 through cash app, so I asked if she could send me an invoice first so that I would have verification of sending the payment. She said that she would send the invoice to me with a tracking number after I sent the payment, so reluctantly I went ahead and sent $350 to $KiaDBookMarkia through CashApp. Hours went by and I never received an invoice or tracking number so that's when I began to panic. I kept messaging Markia, asking when I would receive the invoice and she finally responded and said that I would need to send her an additional $100 for insurance. I knew then that I was scammed! I tried to request a refund back from her, but she immediately declined and I have never received the fender that I ordered, or a refund. I made a police report with my local police department and filed a dispute with my bank, but today I received a letter from my bank stating that since I paid through a third party app, such as CashApp, there is nothing they can do to collect my money back, which I think is disgraceful! I don't have $350 just to throw away. I have copies of all of the correspondence with this fraudulent company if you need more information. They have since blocked me from Facebook so I can no longer view their page, but I plan to follow up with the police report and try to find out how to report them to facebook also. I had to close my bank account and open a new one, because somehow the scammer also used my information to hack into my debit account and used it to purchase meals from Uber and Uber trips, totaling an additional $260. I was able to get my bank to reverse the fraudulent uber charges, but they will not refund my $350 to me. I just hope you can help stop these crooks from getting anyone else's money and I hope I can get my $350 back. Thank you!
