Type of a scam Online Purchase

Person identified as "Brock Fletcher" on Facebook, a member of the BMW K75 motorcycle group thereon, purported to have a windshield for sale for $150. Contact was made through Facebook messenger. Discussion about how and where to ship it developed. I specified USPS to my Alaskan address. Mr. "Fletcher" agreed and asked for payment with AppleCash to 609-305-8262, a number billed in New Jersey. I sent $150. I was unsure whether he would charge again for postage, but proceeded. He said he would send tracking info after sending the item. 2 days later, I got an email from [email protected] with tracking number: AAE1-05-9523487106.

After visiting their site and querying the tracking number, a page informing me that my shipment was on hold. The site had a live-chat widget, so I asked why my shipment was on hold. The response was that I needed to provide an additional $100 for "Insurance" before the item would be released. This was the point when the bells started to ring.

I explained the issue to Mr. "Fletcher" on the Facebook messenger thread. He tried to convince me to pay the $100 and insisted that it would be refunded after delivery. More bells ringing. I said no and haven't heard from him since.

I've written off the $150, but I never gave them the "insurance" money.
