Looking at caller ID prior to picking up phone, I see that it is DISH NETWORK PURCHASING. Since we have Dish Network Satelite Television, I answered.

An Asian voice says that Dish is changing a satelite position and needed to update the Hopper to new software, that they said they could accomplish remotely via phone. The representative said I had to hit the menu button twice and read off two of the numbers that were displayed. He then transferred me to the Dish tech who could use the numbers to remote in. This was to be the latest 4K technology and lead to better reception.

He had me turn off my television to complete the transmission. He then said that the original software was removed and he had started the began the installation, which would take about 10 minutes, then I could turn the television back on. He then said that a $600.00 fee would be added to my bill, but a $160.00 deposit would have to be made at this time by credit card. I was hesitant to do that but I said that I first needed his name and employee ID. He gave me his name, Richard Williams, ID H1512570, and said that if I had any problems that I could call him back to his direct number, 855-295-1231. With that much information I felt comfortable using my card and read off the numbers. He repeated them and then asked for my security code on the back.

This I thought odd, but obliged.

He said that I could turn the TV back on in 3 minutes, as we had used 7 of the 10 minutes in conversation.

After hanging up I still felt uneasy, so recalled the number on the caller ID.

When the phone was answered by the Dish answering recording, I thought that all was on the up and up and hung up before talking to a dish representative.

I still felt uneasy and called back again and waited to talk to a Dish representative, who said she knew nothing of such a program, and that dish would not open such an offer with a call. She transferred me to the fraud department, who said that no such offer was from Dish and it must have been a SCAM, which she would document in their system and pursue further.

I immediately called the credit card company and cancelled my card, and asked to be sent a new one. She said there had been no transactions.

The scammer had told me that there would be a follow up call to confirm that the installation was completed and TV was working OK.

Another call came from caller ID 1-367-257-5108, and I was asked if I had received a call from Richard, and if every thing was OK. I said yes and I had cancelled my credit card and notified Dish the you had hacked into their system and were using their number (1-800-333-3474). I heard no more words, only the click of the phone, as the SCAMMER hung up.

I notified the ScamPulse.com in Omaha, and she suggested I post this to this web site. She said that I was the first to report this scam, but the 855-295-1231 had numerous reports on a previous IRS scam.
