A man by the name of John McCall called on my home phone on Saturday, September 7, 2024, and told me that he was from Directv and that my Directv receiver needed an update so that it would continue to work.

He was very knowledgeable about my receiver, only asking me for limited information. He also informed me that I would need to pay a new deposit on the receiver, in order for him to update the system. He told me his extension number, 111, in case I had any questions later on. He also informed me that he would be calling me on Monday, September 9, 2024, to check on how the receiver was working. Believing him to be from Directv, I gave him my credit card number to pay for the $250 deposit. He told me that if my credit card company should call me to approve the transaction, that I was to tell them yes, it was ok to pay. He gave me a number to call if I had any problems with the receiver later on. The number was 1-888-421-8179 and a confirmation number, 572JAF29. After hanging up with him, I did not feel that this was Directv and called them to verify that they had called me. I was informed by Directv that they do not call to update a receiver system. I gave them the information I had regarding this scam. I also called my credit card company and explained the situtation to them, and they have since closed that credit card.

I've had 2 separate incidents where someone saying they are with the tech team of Directv has to make updates on my DVR or the service will be stopped. July, 2022 (called themselves Upwork) and November 17, 2022 (called themselves WIRELESS LINK). Different person but with heavy Indian accent. The 1st time I gave them my VISA number (how dumb was I?!) because they already had the last 4 digits. They assured me that if I remained an active customer of Directv 6 months later, it would be refunded. The 2nd incident just a few days ago tried the same thing. I questioned her a lot and eventually my VISA charge was disputed by Bank of America so she said I needed to call BofA to authorize the charge which I refused to do. By then, BofA had already closed my account and blocked the charge so no money lost this time. They are quite aggressive and called many times and I didn't answer the calls. I was a schmuck. DON'T FALL FOR IT!!!

We received a call from Direct TV telling us we were eligible for a discount on services for the next 3 years if we prepaid 6 months of service. We were requested to provide $837 worth of eBay gift cards, and were to call back a Mike Melvin at ext. 125 at 252-842-2082. We called eBay to see if they had any promotions or partnership with Direct TV and they confirmed they did not.

I saw this tv commercial saying it was direct tv with low cable costs and I called to set up an account thinkinking it is the official direct tv but when I noticed my bank statements I was charged an additional $103. I called the direct tv and said someone will call me back in an hour. And never received the call back. Then I called the company at&t and they have no account number that matches the one that the company gave me. It is worrisome to me that I gave out all my information.

I received a call from a woman who stated she was calling from DirecTv's loyalty department. She was talking extremely fast and hung up even faster. I called DirecTv to verify and they advised that they did not try to contact me.

I was told I was eligible for a DirecTV promotion through amazon, if I purchased a $300 amazon gift card and used it to prepay my DirecTV bill for 3 months that my rate would drop to 59.99/ month for 2 years. I just had to call back their promotions and billing department and give them the gift card number

I was scammed by a Directv impersonator claiming if I prepaid for 5 months with an amazon gift card of $250, then I could get two years of Directv service at a lower rate of $49.99 per month. the caller is spoofing the caller ID so that it routes in to your phone from the Directv number. When you call back the main number of Directv, you will be told the promotion is a scam. they give you a promotion code dtv1097 and tell you to call billing department at 1-888-301-9087, this number is scam also and is not directv. they will know your name, address, billing number, and even have billing information about your recent activity. They claim to also be sending you a visa gift card for $100. they claim to be giving you at no extra charge, NFL Sunday Ticket and the HBO package of premium channels at no extra charge also. They claim their phone number is not listed on the company website because they are a promotional arm of ATT and not the main company.
