Type of a scam Phishing

Was first called by a female who purported to be a DirectTV employee. They were not. She asked me to turn on my DTV receiver so she could determine whether I needed a required upgrade to maintain service. It was determined I needed the upgrade and someone else would call in 30-60 minutes. Shortly after that someone claiming to be named James called and said his extension was x560 if we got disconnected. He knew my exact monthly DTV payment amount and said that would be discounted for 36 months by $40 to pay for a required upgrade that would cost $350. He said he was doing the upgrade as we spoke and said that there was a big problem with people moving and not returning DTV equipment. Therefore there was a new policy where half the cost of the equipment would be charged if not returned, and they could not use the payment currently on file for that, it had to be a separate debit card number. That should have been the red flag for me but I gave him my debit card info. I realized later the whole thing was a scam, then blocked and replaced my debit card. I called the number back a few hours later and got another male voice who claimed to be DTV and insisted the upgrade was real. By then I knew it couldn't be, and I called DTV and they confirmed it was a scam. The next day I had an attempted charge on my old replaced card from somewhere in St Louis, MO. Today they called back and asked me if I remembered the upgrade, and before they could state why they were calling I told them I was reporting the number to the BBB. I should have played along a little bit to get more information out of them, like whether they were calling because they wanted another card number since the first didn't work. I am a pretty savvy guy and never thought I would fall for this, but they were very sophisticated in their delivery, especially knowing my exact DTV recurring charge.
