Type of a scam Online Purchase

Two guys showed up in an unmarked pickup and without uniforms. Even though I caught the guy lying about a part availability to get a working transmitter while he was still there, I consented to an installation of a new garage door. He also deceived me about including a keypad in the install. My opener was 50 years old and just retuning after a long trip back to CT from my home in Florida, I just wanted to get a working remote and my car's Homelink working. I later on found out that I could have had the same install through Lowes for $150 less. My other mistake was giving him a check and letting him fill out who it was to be paid to. When it cleared, I could see that he filled in his name rather than a business. I later found 2 other web sites with same name and identical information except for the phone number. It certainly was a red flag that there was no business address or email address. Lastly, I called twice to have them email a receipt for the job and none has been sent after being told that the manager will send it. This is not a legitimate business and I may report them to the CT Consumer Protection Department where I know one of their lawyers
