They called my home phone number-my caller ID said 800-531-5000—that is Directv. They wanted me to go buy a Amazon gift card for $300.00 in exchange for reduced Directv & AT&T bill for $99.95 per month for 24 months. My new Directv service would include all of the pay channels and the NFL Sunday ticket for the next 2 years included. I decided to google this promotion and I found out it was a scam. They almost had me but I’m glad I checked before doing what they were asking me to do.

Two days in a row I received checks for 3,418.90. I was to cash them and put in my account and then go to Walmart and Money gram to purchase money orders. I guess the second time, I was supposed to buy some electronics for less than 50.00 too. I also received a text a few days ago from an unknown person saying I was getting a package! I didn't sign up for this. I tried to send the first package back and the mail carrier wouldn't take it.

I received a phone call today around noon with the DirecTV legitimate customer service phone number showing up on my caller ID. They claimed to be DirecTV promotion department, and they knew my name, address, and exact bill amount. They told me that they are running a promotion to reduce my DirecTV bill to $119 per month for 2 years, as long as I prepay 3 months worth, a total of $360 in advance. Then on the 4th month, I would be billed $119 from then on until 2 years are up. I was told that since Amazon is funding the promotion, I need to buy an Amazon gift card to use as the payment type. Then I was given a number to call DirecTV billing to give them the gift card info. This needed to be done today by 10pm. Just now (735pm) I received another call from them to make sure I was still on board and was going to make the payment. A quick internet search shows SCAM. Of course I didn't do this, but instead reported to the local police (left a message for police)

I received a call from a person that said he was with DirecTV. He said they had a promotion and could save me $30/month on my service and add more channels. He had some of my information as I asked him what I was paying now, when my last payment was made etc. He said to redeem the offer that I needed to buy an Amazon gift card in the amount of $300 which would pay my first 6 months and secure the lower rate for 2 years. Better yet, if I was able to call the number they provided, 888-901-9134 ext1, within 2 hours, they would send me a $150 gift card. They said this was a promotion that Amazon was paying for. I went through the whole process to set up, but of course recognized this as a scam and did not buy the card, I wanted to see how they set up the scam. They seem to have some information on my actual DirecTV account that they use to convince you that they are legit - I wonder how they get that. Maybe an insider leaking data or a data breach?

I was contacted first by email from a man named Mark Jackson with Peterson Health Care offering me a management position with his company, working 100% from home. Here is the correspondence via Google Hangouts ([email protected]). He claimed he would be sending me office equipment for my home office. He at first required me to send a $50 ITunes Giftcard to pay for software site license fees in setting up a new laptop. I did scan and email that card to him with the pin so he got $50 from me. He then changed his mind and also required a additional $100 iTunes Gift Card from me for more site licenses. I was then seeing this as a scam. Here is our correspondence after he told me I was hired.

I did send a $50 card but then he changed his mind and demanded a $100 card. Then I accused him of being a scam and he dropped me. Google seems to be protecting him to continue his scams on their Hangout platform.

I just got a call ‘from ATT’, even showing their 611 customer service on caller ID.

They said my account was compromised, and is being frozen.

They started asking for all of my account info to verify who I was.

Sorry to say.... they sounded ‘foreign’...

I hung up.

Called ATT, and was told it was a scam.

Never, never answer any cell phone telemarketer questions.

Hang up.

Call them back on a recognized number.

Received a call from the number i have in my phone as "Direct TV Customer Service" which i have used many times to contact Direct TV, telling me about an offer to reduce my monthly fee by half and nothing to pay for 6 months by purchasing a $350 Amazon gift card, then calling them back to provide the gift card number detail and provided me with a reference number. Plus i would also receive a $100 Amazon gift card to spend on whatever i want. They went into a big explanation into how Amazon was funding this special offer to drive up sales of their gift cards.. They are very good and indeed very believable, it was only when i google'd the subject that i learned it was a scam! Plus the Indian speaking guy gave his name as John Smith, that was the first clue!! They also called me back the day after to see why i hadn't claimed my offer yet.

Call from Direct TV we are running a promotion. Promotion 2 years and allows you to have 5 more movie channel for free. I knew this was a scam so I hung up. They keep calling me everyday, every morning since Wednesday of this week. This is going to cost $250 and pay up front, would not get a bill for 4 months and I will get a prepaid VISA card in the mail. Bill will be reduced to $64 a month and could be renewed in 2 years.
