Scammer called from “Centerpoint” and said my electricity was past due and that my electricity would be turned off if I didn’t make a payment within the hour

I was called by what I thought was Centerpoint Energy and was told they were disconnecting my service. I argued with the guy enough he hung up so I then called Centerpoint.

John at Centerpoint told me they are aware of scams where the scammer uses their (Centerpoint) phone number.

Got a call from what appears to be Center Point 713.659.2111 to my personal cell saying my gas would be shut off in next 60-90minutes due to non-payment. I followed the prompt to speak to representative "press 1". he picked up and said "thank you for calling center point, how may I help you". I explained they had called me & that I simply pressed the prompt. he said my gas would be shut off in 60-90 minutes due to my payment not being received. I said I did not receive a new invoice & he then disconnected the call. I then logged into Center Point site to report & request a password reset. I also checked my bank as I have bill pay set up with them. neither show a balance due to Center Point. Obviously this was a scam, but wanted to report as it came from a Center Point phone number.

The scammer called from CenterPoint Energy with my mother's name and address stating the bill was delinquent and would be shut off if not paid in 30 minutes. My mother was in the hospital so I thought maybe she did not pay her bill. I paid it using Zelle but they somehow charged me $225.60, $228.60 and $274.40 - a total of $728.60.

The bank could not help me retrieve or cancel these payments, neither could Zelle.

I work hard for what money I do make, there are horrible scammers in this world.

They called me saying they were going to shut off my gas service if I didn't pay. I told them that my balance was zero but they insisted that I had a balance that I went to the store and bought a prepaid card.

I received a call to my mobile device and the Caller ID stated it was Centerpoint Energy and the phone number matched one of the contact numbers for Centerpoint. When I answered the call it was an automated message stating that my service was going to be cut of in the next hour and to press the "1" to be directed to a billing agent. I hung up the phone at this point and called the center point number and verified by account was in good standing.

I believe the scammers masked their real number an used a different Centerpoint Energy number. I answered the called and it said our power would be turned off in 30 minutes and to press “1” to be transferred to speak with a representative in the billing department to prevent our power being turned off.

We verified our account online and as I suspected, we are up to date on payments. I’ve read there have been similar scams going around.

The call ended before someone spoke to me personally.

Received a phone call claiming to be Centerpoint Energy. Caller gave name and badge number. They said

My service would be disconnected in 60 minutes. They asked for my address. When I told them my bills were paid and questioned why they were calling on my cell phone, they hung up.

The caller spoofed the Centerpoint phone number and is the reason I answered the phone. A recording said the utility was in the process of being disconnected in the next 30 mins and to press 1 to talk to customer service. Live caller asked to verify address & name. The caller then insisted account was past due. I logged onto my computer to look as my gas bill is usually only about $50 as they said it was $199. When I asked why so high they told me fees were added bc the account is past due. This is when I caught them in the scam as my bill online showed the usual $50 and they also said electricity at that point and I use Centerpoint for gas. When I confronted the caller about this they hung up. The caller also spoke perfect English and usually the fake scam calls we get are from India call centers which made this one along with the spoofed number tricky.

He called and said my service would be cut off if I did'nt pay 398. Right away that they needed to investagate my account. They need to be stopped.

Call me an said lights were going to be disconnected in 30 minute unless I paid the bill which he said was behind 3 month's.I should have known better but I was in a bad way an was not thinking, I had just lost my son,he had not been buried. So he ask for 800.00 an told me he made a mistake after I zelle it an UPS would bring that back the next day but it was 1000.00 $.Something told me to call light company an this is when I realize he was scamming me an he heard me taking an said ma'am why are you talking to them an he hung up.I immediately call my bank an reported it to them, they were not much heip.

Robo call message states power will be cut off in 30-45 minutes unless hit "1" to stop. Says account is passed due & payment must be made.

Pretended to be centerpoint energy saying acct past due

I received a voice mail message, purportedly from (713) 207-2222 (Centerpoint's customer service line) that said:

To avoid disruption of services, please dial number 1 on your touch phone to speak with a live representative at our billings and collection department. Again, to speak with a live agent, please press the number 1 on your touch phone. Goodbye.

My account is current at Centerpoint and I believe this to be a scam. I have a recording of the call I could forward if that would be helpful.

Claimed disconnection of utility in 30minutes and needed immediate payment. He referred me to go to my banking app to set up payment with my name as recipient. First asked for $450 payment then gave 2 different lesser amounts. When I asked him for a phone number to call back he hung up the phone.

As a customer who received the scam robocall detailed that the recording warned her that her electric service would be interrupted in 45-60 minutes. She was connected to a live caller who asked her to verify her address. The caller then insisted the customer had a past due balance of three months. After the customer verified her account status on her CenterPoint Energy online account and told the scammer his information was incorrect, he became hostile – a tactic used to intimidate the customer. The customer, recognizing it was a scam, disconnected the call.

Scammers said my phone bill was overdue and they were going to cut off my electricity. I told him I didn’t have Centerpoint and he said that he was in charge of all sub electricity companies. He aggressively said he looked me up and I was months overdue and if I didn’t pay over the phone, they’d stop service immediately. I told him to look because I was paid up and I wasn’t giving him any info. He hung up on me.

Received a phone call on a mobile phone and the robot all said we had not paid the gas bill and it would be disconnected immediately. Then it offered to talk to a representative to arrange payment. We hung up and verified the balance at Centerpoint and the was nothing due, the last bill had been paid in plenty of time. The next one was weeks in the future.

Robocall claiming to be Centerpoint Energy.

Said my bill was delinquent and to press 1 to pay bill or 2 to speak to an agent.

I did neither and the call disconnected.

Someone called, representing themselves as CenterPoint Energy, claiming we had a overdue payment and that gas would be disconnected in 30 minutes if we didn't pay now. Stayed on the phone for a long time while we tried to verify this overdue payment. (Fact, we were current on our gas bill, next due date was still 11 days away.) As the individual continued to talk, he made a statement about an overdue deposit (??). He also go agitated as time went on.
