We received a phone call saying that we had been overcharged for credit card processing fees.

The lady on the phone spoke with my receptionist asking if she is the person responsible for our merchant services and my receptionist said "no." The lady on the phone said, "that is strange we have your name on file as the person to speak to, may we speak to the person responsible for your merchant services?"

The phone was handed to me and the lady on the phone said something had happened recently and my processing fees had risen when they shouldn't have. They were calling to rectify the error by having the overcharges refunded. The woman wanted me to pull one of my last 3 statements and calculate the fees I was paying. She wanted me to email her a copy of ONE of my statements with a reference number so they could refund me the difference of the last THREE months. At this point I felt super uncomfortable with emailing her this information and she assured me there was nothing to worry about.

My front desk receptionist looked up the email given and we saw this website with similar complaints and we hung up. She called back and said the the call must of dropped and we said, we verified with our Merchant provider that this is a scam and she said, "okay thank you," and hung up.

SCAM.

Some one called from 800-770-6017, the girl said that we were overcharged for 90 days and asked me to figure out my total fees and what i ran in a month, wanted my statement sent to [email protected].
Very convincing scam, i reverse looked up the email address and saw these posts and left her on the phone. The most surprising thing is it was a person who spoke proper English.

I also received a call alleging that we had been overcharged for our credit card processing fees. They claimed that our processing fees had risen when they shouldn't have. They also said they were calling to rectify the error and have the overcharges refunded.
They wanted us to pull one of our last 3 statements and calculate the fees I was paying vs my total for the month. They also insisted we were paying more than our stated rates and claimed we were paying 2.5%. My calculation showed the correct processing fees. They had me email a copy of my statement and gave me a "reference number" so they could refund me the difference of the last THREE months.

Would agree that this scam is very convincing, but I hope by posting about it someone else might be saved the hassle. After speaking with my *actual* card processing company, they said that these types of calls are usually used to fish for business and get business information to use in sales calls and underhanded tactics to steal business.

Stay watchful out there!

I received a call explaining I had been overcharged for credit card processing fees. Something had happened recently and my processing fees had risen when they shouldn't have. They were calling to rectify the error by having the overcharges refunded. The woman wanted me to pull one of my last 3 statements and calculate the fees I was paying. She insisted I was paying more than 1.5% and even mentioned I was paying 2.5%. My calculation showed I'm paying 1.2% processing fees. She wanted me to email her a copy of ONE of my statements with a reference number so they could refund me the difference of the last THREE months.

Very convincing scam but...If this was legitimate, they'd have my processing statements!

I reverse looked up the email address and phone number. NO records were found.

SCAM!
