We were searching for a small breed puppy to be a companion for my oldest daughter who has neurological issues. My wife found a Facebook group about puppy adoption ran by an elderly woman named Catherine Reagan Shumaker. We asked about getting a chihuahua puppy and she agreed to knock off $200 from the adoption price because our daughter had health issues. Over the next few weeks she asked multiple times about my daughter's health. We were completely sold that this woman was legitimate and a good person. As the time approached to meet. We agreed to meet at a town that she would deliver to, but she needed part of the money up front to pay the last round of shots and vet stuff, paperwork, etc. When asking about methods she said she could do PayPal only as friends and family. We rarely use PayPal so we did it. The address she sent brought up Euros. I had a red flag, but ignored it because of my kids. When questioned she said it was a common glitch. Finally after sending it to a different PayPal account she was adamant about it being friends and family, but wanted me to confirm that the money went through and then kept saying it hadn't. I finally said that they would get no more money until they gave me the puppy. She agreed to meet at a closer location and the morning of the meeting I got a message from her stating that she was shipping the dog because her daughter was having an emergency surgery. We had red flags before but when she threatened animal abandonment charges if we didn't reply to an email from the alleged shipping company we knew. Then we googled the first picture she sent us of the dog and we saw it was posted from a dog breeder site in Utah. This woman or whoever is behind this has an entire group of people working with her to help her prey on people by having them lure people in by saying how good she is. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.
