I received a letter today stating my estranged mother had passed and that her estate owed a debt. After some research I found out she is alive and well. This was an awful letter to come home to. What if she had passed? This is how I would be notified?! Awful business practice and poor research for debt collection. When I contacted Ascension the reaction from the company was short of trying to contact information for my "dead mother" so they could pursue collection now that I could confirm she was alive.
