I was having trouble booking an Amtrak ticket on my phone and decided to call customer service. I looked up the customer service phone number for Amtrak and was provided 1-877-904-7166. The number did not direct me to Amtrak like the search result said that it would. Instead, my call was transferred to 1-866-817-1851 and the person on the other line attempted to sell me an Amtrak ticket for double the price of the actual ticket. They said that the price I saw online was no longer valid because it was due to a summer sale and needed to be updated. I hung up and said that I would try to buy it on the app because that didn't seem right and they called me back three times. It looks like 1-866-817-1851 belongs to SmartFlyFarez, which is a known scamming travel website. The search results for Amtrak should not yield this entity's phone number. I am lucky that I noticed the prices were different online.
