American Cash Award Sweepstakes Compnay Reports & Reviews (1)

- Orange, CA, USA

William Tyes phoned cold call to tell us we had won 1.5 million via cashier's check plus $25,000 per month cash via Bank of America for remainder of our lives. Also a 2020 BMW car. Sweepstakes through Reader's Digest. Started asking questions "for their company records plus for our state government " Award in my husband's name though Mr Tyes was very willing to speak with me before any verification of who I was (#1 tip-off). I did verify spelling of my husband's name. Did NOT tell him if we own our home, if we are seniors, if we owe money to the IRS or whether our children are our successors (as this award would continue to our children at our death). (latter is tip-off #2). He seemed content to go onto the next question when I did not answer his questions. Gave us the choice of making this award public or kept private. Apparently the company had 'sent us an award letter in the mail' (he did have the correct address) but we had not responded so he was now calling us instead so we could receive our prizes immediately. I asked him to resend the letter and to give me a phone # to respond and let him know we had now received the letter. This was not acceptable and he wanted to e-mail instead - he kept pushing coming to our house TODAY to complete the paperwork and get our cashier's check and first cash payment to us. (tip-off #3). By this time he had called me 3 times (initial, regarding resending the letter, and to request my e-mail). At this point I had had time to look up the company name on ScamPulse.com website which indicated probable scammer. Last question I asked was what do we have to do to get the prize. Answer: they cover 99.7% of everything, all we had to do was cover the final 3%. At this point I told him I knew him to be a scammer, that I intended to report the call, asked him to not call me again and I hung up. His constant persistence at needing to close the deal ASAP as well as the fact that we had not entered any sweepstakes were the primary give-away in all this. If it was legit, a few days to receive an copy of the original letter would not be a problem. PS: I have not received any thing via e-mail as he took down the address incorrectly which I am now thankful for
