I’ve been laid off since October and have been using Indeed to search for work at home positions. Received a random text that my resume was selected for an interview. In hind sight I should’ve been suspicious as to why I wasn’t being contacted through Indeed and sent a random text. They list various positions that are available (Data Entry Clerk, Customer Service Representative, Administrative Assistant, Accounting Payroll Clerk, Billing Clerk, Assistant Manager) of which they need to fill immediately. They asked me to install Skype on my smart phone and that’s were ALL communications happened. The interview was done on Skype on Thursday, 3/14. They requested I add the interviewer (Dr. Maura G. Page using (live:.cid.63806bb9305a6ebf). The entire interview was done through texting, no phone or video (duh me). She/He/It? Explained each position and after each section I was to type ‘okay’ that I understood and then we went onto the next section. She went through the benefits which were amazing (duh me again). Duties were to be assigned to me daily by a Supervisor and I was to record my time in Excel and send the completed work back via e-mail. After the interview was over which took 1.5 hours in total. A follow-up interview was this morning where I would find out the results of the interview. Before the results were shared, they asked for my e-mail address which I provided and they sent me an Employment Offer Letter which I signed. I never provided my SS# or banking information just the name of the bank I use. I scanned that signed agreement and sent it through Skype as requested. She then requested the following information so they could register me in there system: name, address, phone and e-mail. This is where it gets strange. They said they were going to send me a ‘start-up’ check via FedEx or USPS. Then instructed once I receive the check deposit into bank account via Teller, ATM or mobile deposit. Then I need to send a copy of the deposit slip to them for record keeping. Then the funds will be credited and available in your account for cashing out the next day. Then she asked me to reiterate what she just told me in text to confirm I understood. (I will be depositing the company check in my Liberty checking account which will be used to purchase the necessary software/hardware to setup my mini office). Lastly, she wants me to join her on Skype on Monday the 18th. I reached out to the account and told them I had reconsidered the job offer and not to send or correspond with me any longer. I still have some of the documentation if it’s needed. I feel dumb that I fell for this scam. It was too good to be true. What company now a days offers 100% medical/dental/401k. And why wouldn’t they just send me the equipment I needed makes zero sense. I’m just thankful I didn’t deposit the check which is probably counterfeit/bad according to some research I did earlier today. I’ve been laid off and would’ve been devastated if they got into my funds. Please let me know if there’s anything I should be doing to safeguard myself. I think I will put a freeze on my credit for starters. Thank-you for listening and I appreciate what your organization does.
