Type of a scam Debt Collections

Allied assets called and left a message on my parents answering machine. They left there phone number 18772538089 and a case number 123689. I called back and they stated that I owe a debt of 430.00. I don't know who I owe the money to. I looked up allied asset.net online and there is no identifiable information for the company. No addresss,no phone number. I want to know if this is a scam.

Allied Assets of Gaithersburg, Maryland contacted my brother looking for me. They gave him a file number and phone number of which I called. The party answered "remediation". I had to ask who they were and where they were. The person that answered stated that I was a debtor for a payday loan of $300 from June of 2013. They had my ss number, a previous address, and the last 4 digits of a checking account number that was closed in 2008.

When I asked who the original creditor was, I was told Vince Enterprises LTD.

I had no knowledge of this company until I pulled a Cease and Desist order from the State of Idaho dated April, 2013. I asked for documentation that a loan was taken out in my name, but was refused (citing that the original creditor already did this. The phone number I dialed is 877-224-4880, and the address I received was a box number at a UPS store - 325 Ellington Blvd "Suite" 323, Gaithersburg, MD according to Google.

This smells like a scam. The background noise sounded like a big sales room and I could here other reps citing the same scripted language regarding an alleged delinquent payday loan.

These guys are trying to put people on the spot to access funds from their bank account by stating that if they go with option 2 (paying a "discounted" amount of $480) they can avoid option 1 (paying well over $2000 for collection and attorney's fees). I for one stated I couldn't make that decision without knowing what I was paying.

I then googled the phone number and found 25 people since Nov 3 with the same story.
