I recieved a call from someone claiming to be from the US Treasury telling me that I owed $5,000 due to an error on my 2013 tax return. I was immediately suspicious because they didn't have my first name. They did have my mailing address. They asked if I had filed my own taxes. This was also suspicious because on my tax returns, it clearly indicates that they are self-prepared.

When I asked why I had not been contacted prior to this if the situation had grown so urgent, they claimed that they had sent two notices to my home address, and that I had not replied.

They said that after I hung up, they would dispatch the local authorities to my home address to arrest me.

The caller had a thick foreign accent, but this did not tip me off, because many US companies use call centers located in India. The phone number appeared to be from California on my caller ID.

2 phone messages from man with foreign accent, "United States Treasury stating serious attention needed. If second attempts ignored, it will bring forth an appearance at the court, magistrate judge or the grand jury for a federal criminal offense. Call 305-587-2971. I repeat 305 etc.......I advise you to co-operate with us & help us to help you". Followed by a half busy signal & then disconnected. I did not call number back, but saved the 2 messages; 1 @ 10:25am & next @ 12:01pm.

Got a phone call from (206) 538-2578 at 11:50 AM on March 19th, 2016. I did not answer the call. The message was the following:

Hi, My name is David gray this message is intended to contact you regarding an enforcement action executed by the United States treasury intending you're serious attention ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand Jury for a federal criminal offense my number is 206-538-2578 I repeat It's 206-538-2578. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you thank you.

Received a voice message at home on 7/24/15 from 202-600-8086 "Case file. Please call immediately on our department number 202-600-8086. I repeat 202-600-8086. Thank you." This appeared to be a recorded message in a female voice.

Received a voice message at home today 2/12/16 from 706-250-8336 Augusta, GA. "Enforcement action executed by the United States Treasury needing your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 706-250-8336. I repeat it's 706-250-8336. I'd like you to call ( ???? ) with us and help us to help you. Thank you."

I don't mind talking with the media about the calls. We have not fallen for these scams nor lost any money so don't feel it necessary to be taped for a television spot.

Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before magistrate judge or a grand jewelry for federal criminal offense. My number is 703-828-0314. I repeat it's 703-828-0314. I'd wife you to call great(?) with us and help us to help you. Thank you."

I have great credit and I do not owe taxes. I did not call back.

When I called back a man identified as officer Jack Marshall answered. I have had this scam once before and when I cornered the person they began swearing at me in a foreign language.

Caller states that you will be turned over to collections for your delinquent tax debt if you do not immediately call them back so they can help. This is a scam!!!!! They answer the phone United States Treasury but it is a cell phone number. They have called 3 times already this morning with the same phone number and prerecorded message.
