Spectrum Reports & Reviews (81)

We received an email offering us a 50% discount on our cable services for 2 years. They wanted us to go to Walgreens and purchase 3 ebay gift cards for $365.00. I called the ScamPulse.com to get guidance.

Assume this was a phishing scam. We were left a message that we were entitled to a 50% discount on our account. Instructed to call 833-623-1802 between 8-5 PST. I called Spectrum and confirm they were not offering this discount. I did not call the potential scammer. I expect that they would have wanted me to provide my account number and other information and I would not want to give them this information unless I knew for sure they were part of Spectrum.

I received a text message that read: "It is SPECTRUM and services have been suspended. To restore service, visit www.spectrum.net/support/myaccount/pay-my-bill. STOP to unsubscribe."

I called Spectrum and confirmed that my account was in good standing. Additionally, Spectrum confirmed they see no system text messages initiated on my account.

I called Spectrum Cable yesterday and changed my service so that I am paying about $50 less a month. It is 3 days into the new billing cycle but I still pay for the whole month at the higher rater. How is that legal? They are collecting for services not provided.

Why is this not prorated?

Someone called my number saying they were with Spectrum and wanted to lower my Spectrum bill. They offered to give me better Wi-Fi and were going to send me a new router.

Scammers called promising 50% off my Spectrum bill.

They asked for what I was paying spectrum and they could lower my bill and then wanted the birth date of the person on the bill then the security code on the bill and then the social security number of that person on the bill. I said no way this is a scam and hung up.

Foreign caller saying from Spectrum offering to lower my monthly bill by 50% for two years if I pay for the first 6 months ($600) upfront.
I called Spectrum and no such thing is available. SCAM!

I was contacted by a man last night on May 31, 2022, at 5:30 pm he said he worked for Spectrum. He knew my name, address, and last 4 of my debit card. He said that spectrum was running a promotion for $102.00 for one year. Unfortunately, he said he needed my debit card information to process payment and he also needed my social security number. I then proceeded to give him this information.

Caller claims to be from internet/tv provider. Says I'm paying too much for service. Will reduce payments but I have to set up an automatic bank payment for future reduced payments, so he needs my bank account number. At that point I told them I was uncomfortable conducting that over the phone, at which point he hangs up.

I received a call from someone saying he was from Spectrum and calling to let me know they had upgraded their equipment and I would need to replace all my cable boxes. I replied, "Oh, really," and he did not hang up but stopped talking. I hung up and dialed the 808 number he called from and it was a "non-working" number.

I called Spectrum -- they did not call me; they do not call customers to discuss this sort of upgrade. They always mail a letter or postcard to let customers know about upcoming changes. This is a common phishing call I guess. Do not respond to this type of call.

A person claiming to be from Spectrum called me and told me they could get me a discount on service as well as new equipment. After speaking with the representative for a while, I was forwarded on to his "boss" who said he needed my Social Security Number in order to run a soft credit check on my account. I have been with Charter Spectrum for 30 years. They didn't need my SSN. At this point, I figured out it was a scam. I called Spectrum and the representative verified that they don't call people with discounts like this.

Spectrum is using some "sketchy" individuals to drum up business. Received two calls today. 1st one was from Midmark Corporation and the individual claimed he was from Spectrum. 2nd one was from the University of Dayton Ohio and again, the individual claimed he was from Spectrum. Both times I pointed out what was showing as the phone number and they hung up.

Call came 3.3.22 from james walker and john belfort working for Spectrum. James and John had the same accent. They called from 682-253-5325. Their call back number is 833-724-2769. I was offered a deal to save $50 a month. They asked for my acct number, security code, social security number, and credit card. Two phones were delivered by FedEx (and reported to FedEx fraud dept), but I didn't accept delivery. I contacted Spectrum's fraud dept, and they fixed my Spectrum account. I called them back to say I didn't want the gift card or the phones, and to refund her account. They said they couldn't refund my account until Monday. I said I would report them to the police. They sent me shipping labels on Friday to return the phones if I didn't want them. Spectrum said not to sue their shipping labels. FedEx Worthington wrote to me because they were confused about my order. I called and explained I hadn't ordered anything. I have straightened this out, but want to warn others.

[[BBB TRANSCRIPTION VIA TELEPHONE CALL W/CONSUMER]]

Spectrum wanted to get rid of a bill, they were going to compensate him $20 for overpayment.

Alex Selby called consumer, worked for Spectrum.

They said I had been selected to get a $50.00 discount on my Spectrum Bill for a year. I gave them my bank credit card number and birthday. They wanted my checking account number and the routing number also. I did not do that.

On 2-1-22, I received a phone call on my home phone answering machine from Spectrum stating, “You May qualify for a 50% discount on your account. Call 1-855-568-3178 for more information.” I have been trying to get a cheaper rate with Spectrum for months so I called the above phone number and Mike Caldwell answered and told me I could get a promotional discount of $116.67 monthly for 24 months, same services I have now and no contract. Mr Caldwell explained that Spectrum has been getting a lot of customer complaints so because of FDC Regulations through COVID-19 they have teamed up with Apple because Spectrum now has mobile services and have this new promotional offer. He said if I agreed to the offer I would get a $100 Visa prepaid card mailed to me. He said I would get January, February, and March bill paid for if I would purchase an Apple gift card in the amount of $350 that would pay for those first three months and I wouldn’t start getting billed Until April for my new rate of $116.67 monthly. I agreed and he gave me a promotion code number and I was to call the Billing department 18559066487 and spoke to Alex Reeves and she informed me to purchase the Apple gift card at a department store and call her back. I purchased a $350 gift card at Best Buy and called her back with the code on the gift card and she put me on a brief hold said she had to verify with an Apple representative. She got back on the line and said the card was inactive and not good and the card was locked by Apple and not useable. So she said they would issue me a $350 refund check and Federal express to me and I would also get a $50 apology Visa gift card in the mail. She said for the promotional offer to be good, I needed to purchase another $350 gift card at a different store and call her back so I went to CVS and purchased a second gift card and gave her the number code on the gift card. She then said that card was good and went through and tried to also sell me a IPhone 13 Promax regular price $1000 for 50% off at $500 and I refused the phone offer so she transferred me to a man for the shipping number. I was then transferred to a foreign man and he said, “Oh ma’m I am so sorry. I issued a check to you in the amount of $700 instead of $350. It was my mistake and I will probably get fired. I have been here for two years and I am going to be in trouble by my manager. I need you to pay another $350 to keep this offer and tried to tell me the check already was mailed to me and too late to stop it. By then I was upset and said, “No I already paid $700 and I am not giving you any more money” and demanded all my money back in a refund and hung up on him. The next day on 2-2-22 I did not receive a $700 refund check through FedEx. So I called my Spectrum phone number on my Spectrum bill and they assured me it was a scam and informed me that Spectrum will never call anyone to offer a percentage discount on an account. I reported it to the fraud department of Spectrum. Also the scam has the same recorded greeting and prompts as the actual real Spectrum and it really seems like it is legitimate but actually is not. I then called my bank and was unable to get the charges reversed due to I willingly purchased the two gift cards. I never gave the scammers any of my bank account information and my bank informed me I did not need to change my account. I also called the Apple phone number on the gift card and informed them of the scam and they said the two cards were already redeemed and could not refund any of my money back to me. I notified the police department and filed a report also. I am reporting this to help others so they don’t get easily sucked into this as it is so deceiving and misleading and so easy to get preyed on. I do not want this to happen ton anyone else.

I got a call today at about 1:13 pm from an English speaking African American. He said he worked for Spectrum and he was offering me a 25% off my current bill. He said my bill was $222. He said he had all of my information in front of him, and he did. He knew my social security, address, phone etc. He sounded very legit. A second man came to the phone and said his name was Mike Borne and he needed my credit card. I called Spectrum who verified they had not made a call to me.

I answered a phone call from Spectrum. The phone number in my caller ID was 216-243-0279. I am a customer of Spectrum. The caller was going on and on. It was very enticing because they were offering a lower price. Caller needed my birthday and some other information. I wondered why they would ask for this. I did not provide any information and hung up. I called the number I have for Spectrum. They are not offering this discount. I called the number back that had called me. I reached a message. This is Spectrum leave a message. I hung up.
