Type of a scam: Fake Invoice/Supplier Bill

The scam was to our small business, we have a machine shop. Its not unusual for companies to give samples of their drills and products for us to try to see how we like them. So this particular "company" sent us 1 little drill sample at first. Next, they sent us another to be picked up at our local USPS. They just sent them out of no where there not even from our state. So we assumed they were just really trying to get their product out there. Well now today in the mail we received an Invoice for these drills that we never ordered. So I proceeded to call the number on the invoice from my cell phone to sort it out and got no answer. Then I try from our business line and a guy answers this time. He acted like he was concerned when I explained that we thought they were just sending samples he said 'oh ya probably'. He then asked me the packing slip numbers but all I had was invoice number so he looks it up and says "okay let me look into this for you and give you a call back in a half hour." I asked wait do you have our info he said ya your number comes up. Once I hung up the whole thing just didn't sit right with me and of course we never got a call back so it became apparent that this was a scam of someone hoping we didn't pay attention and just paid the invoice. Makes me sick that people do this! I tried looking them up since were in California and their located in Wisconsin and nothing comes up for their bogus "company!"
