Posted a roll top desk on Craigslist. Received an email from "Mike Suk" to purchase the desk and send us a check "ASAP." We responded, but quickly recognized his story as a scam--claiming to be out of town preparing for his wedding. Scammer wanted to send us a check for the item as well as his mover's fee for us to pay the movers when they arrive to pick up the desk. The scammer also instructed us to remove the item from Craigslist immediately. We have reported this incident to the FBI's IC3. We are located in Ventura County, Califonia.

Type of a scam Online Purchase

Posted a sectional on Craigslist. Received an email from a buyer to purchase and will send check ASAP. Responded via email and text. Buyer sent cashier’s check with additional money to have his mover’s pick up the sectional since he was getting married. Sent the remaining amount to his movers via PayPal. I contacted the buyer to pick up sectional and said his movers got in an accident out of state. Scheduled for another day and buyer responded that he wasn’t going to buy the sectional and to send $200 to help his movers with treatment. He told me to keep the money for the sectional. A few days later, I look at my bank account and a return to item deposit was posted for the amount of the cashier’s check. I was scammed.
