I was contacted via email by Audrey McGee with the email address [email protected] with an invitation for an online interview. The email looked very legitimate with the company logo, well worded, and even a trademark statement at the bottom. I replied with my choice of time slot for an interview and the morning of my interview I went online to Google Hangouts per instructed to meet Kevin Daniel. Before the interview I googled Kevin and looked at everything I could find. He is a legitimate person who works for Micron Technology and is part of the recruiting team. He was very friendly, well spoken and we completed an entire interview over messaging. He asked very interview like professional questions and told me a lot of information about the company - nothing too personal or invasive. After telling me I got the job, hourly wage, and pay schedule he proceeded to tell me what the next steps would be and even sent a W4 form and an offer letter to my email for me to fill out and send back. I looked for all the signs, misspellings, broken English, ect. Once all of that was returned he told me that I would be starting remotely from home and that the company would be sending me a startup check for all of the equipment that I needed. He gave me a FedEx tracking number and told me to keep him informed of when I received it and deposited it. I complied. I deposited it on a Friday so I had to wait until Monday for the funds to be available to me. I also received emails from a "payroll rep" by the name of Caroline Hampton with the email address [email protected]. He proceeded to have me meet him online every day except Sundays for more information. He then requested that I needed to purchase a couple $100 Google Play gift cards here and there for the software that was being installed on my computer and company phone that they were sending to me but each time told me I would be reimbursed on my first paycheck after my training began. I thought this was weird but did it anyway because they sent me a start up check. Monday morning I woke up and checked my account and the check had been placed on hold by my bank because their bank had canceled the check. I informed Kevin after I canceled the hold and the processing of the start up check and he told me that there was a mistake on their end and he would be requesting an issuing of another check. At this point he gets the check sent and supplies me with a new FedEx tracking number and informs me that my computer and company phone are ready to ship but I need to purchase $400 worth of Google Play gift cards to cover the cost of shipping (I would also be reimbursed for this). I grew very suspicious so I asked him to prove it was not a scam and he called me from a New Jersey number (201-742-8799) to talk to me to convince me otherwise. I still stalled buying more gift cards for a couple of days until the day I was supposed to receive the new issued start up check as I had already purchased somewhere around $800 worth of gift cards. I continued to stall and track the check but it was not delivered and so I reached out to FedEx and they informed me that the check was requested to be returned by the company "Hope Womens Clinic". After this I was very sure I was being scammed so I called Micron Human Resources line directly and they informed me that they do not conduct business over Google Hangouts. Kevin tried to continually convince me that it was a mistake and that the man responsible for shipping messed up and had been fired. Both my husband and I researched all of the information that I was being fed up and down and could not find anything suspicious or any previous reported scams linked to Micron. It was very impressively elaborate and in depth.
