I found the company Logo Affinity while searching on Google for someone to design a logo for my web site. Since they offered good rates, I hired them. They designed the logo as agreed, with several iterations going back and forth to revise it to my liking. At the end of the process, I was contacted by telephone by someone from Logo Affinity claiming to be an attorney and seeking to sell me trademark registration services for the logo. I do not have any record of this person’s name. Considering that my site is not a business and I did not consider it to be worth the money to trademark the logo, I declined. They begrudgingly accepted this decision but were clearly not happy about it.

A couple of months later, I received both a phone call and an email from someone from Logo Affinity identifying under the name Erica Robins, who also claimed to be an attorney. She told me that someone else had submitted an application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to trademark my logo and that I needed to pay them for trademark registration in order to avoid having the other party’s application accepted and lose the right to use both the logo and the name of my site. Given that I’ve had the site active for almost 18 years and have never had any problems of this sort until now, I strongly suspected some sort of foul play on their part. I asked her if she could provide me with a copy of the document that they received from the USPTO, but she refused, claiming that it was confidential.

The next day, I called the USPTO and spoke to one their agents. The agent instructed me on how to search on their web site and verify that no such application actually existed. I sent an email to Ms. Robins informing her of the results of this search and that, unless she could provide me with some sort of evidence that the application actually existed, I would be assuming that this was a scam to extract more money from me. The next week, she replied that, if I did not wish to trademark the logo, she would go ahead and allow the other party’s trademark application to proceed. I called her to say that I was offering her the opportunity to take whatever steps she needed to take to make this issue go away at no cost to me and that, if she failed to do so and I experienced any further trouble related to this issue, she could expect a lawsuit. It has been approximately two months since then, and nothing further has happened.

Following the incident, I did a search on the web site of the State Bar of California at http://members.calbar.ca.gov/fal/LicenseeSearch/QuickSearch, and it came back that there is no person by the name of Erica Robins who is licensed to practice law in the state. Therefore, she appears to have falsely represented herself as an attorney when she is actually not.

I went to this business for my logo design for my business. They did a good job on the logo design, for that I'm grateful, but the whole thing fell down when we started talking about trademarking my logo and business name. I began talking with a guy named Steve, who told me that to investigate my logo and business name would cost me $400. I paid the money, Steve then sent me the reports, but I received three reports instead of two and all three had a total price of over $3000. I was livid because a small business can not possibly afford that, so I argued that I couldn't pay that amount. -Now I want you to listen here because this is when they at Logo Affinity run a scam on you-

Steve said that I could decline but if I did, "I could not file for the trademarks for five years". THAT"S A LIE! Arguing with Steve, I kept telling him that I could pay that amount and Steve dwindled the price down to $700 for both my logo and business name. I agreed and then Steve transferred me to a guy named Alan Wilson. Now, Wilson gets on the phone and goes into the $3000+ price tag and I immediately began to argue. -Listen, here's game again-

Steve said that I had to do at least two of the three categories or "tiers" so get an approval form the USPTO. That's $700 a piece! Wilson told me that if I declined, I would have to pay a $1200 penalty from the USPTO because I did not go forward with the application. I said "well, I don't want to get in trouble with the IRS, so I agreed and gave them $700 and was supposed to give them another $700 in a few days. THEN, before the last payment I called the USPTO and spoke to two different individuals on two different days, two opposite sexes said the same thing so listen: The USPTO DOES NOT ISSUE ANY FINES OR PENALTIES FOR DROPPED APPLICATIONS! That's the scam their running here in this business. So, when last Tuesday arrived and they didn't receive the payment, they called me looking for the money. That's when I went off of Wilson and demanded my money back. They owe me $700, and I want my money BACK! These people are scam artists-DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. I have repeatedly called this company for my money and have received no response. SHUT THIS PLACE DOWN! I'm telling everyone about these guys, everywhere I can.
