I found a puppy on lebijoumaltese.com. I filled out a basic form to get more information. "Fred" and I exchanged multiple texts regarding the Maltese puppy named Lilly that I was interested in. All text info was on topic with well thought out answers with no grammatical errors. After several texts back and forth (the phone number he used was 262-223-8778) and reviewing scam sites to see if he was listed anywhere as untrustworthy,on Feb 12, 2021 we agreed that I would purchase the puppy and he would ship the puppy to me using a company called Coastlander shipping ($600 for the puppy and $150 for the shipping). He said he only accepted Zelle (I had never used Zelle before but I remembered seeing it on my bank app) and I sent him the money. He acknowledged that he received the money and that we would start working on the paperwork to initiate shipping. That afternoon, I received a tracking number and a Coastlander link to track Lilly's shipment, which included his information and all of the flight info and delivery time...1:00pm the next day.

Fred sent a text stating he would send me a text once Lilly was dropped off. On Feb, 13, 2021, I started thinking my worst fear was being realized as I hadn't received the confirmation of drop-off text and I know it takes more than a couple hours to fly from WI to Virginia and then travel to my home so I sent Fred a text at 9:55am asking if Lilly was on her way. I didn't hear from Fred right away, instead, 20mins later I got a call from and OK number (405-254-6237) stating he was from Coastlander Shipping, he had my pet but the crate that Fred left the dog in was insufficient to make the trip. Having researched pet scams that was all the confirmation I needed. Fred reach out and said he had been called away for an emergency... but after several texts he agreed to a refund, which of course I'm not going to see.

I have filed a complaint with my bank and Zelle but what I'm concerned about is getting his web-site and Zelle numbers shut down to hopefully prevent someone else from being taken advantage of.
