Type of a scam Moving
On 3/24/2024 we were contacted by Richard who identified himself as a supervisor with American Movers Direct. He asked what was it that they would be loading and we told him we had 2 - 10 x 10 storage buildings approx. 80% full floor to ceiling. He said he only had us booked for 597cf. We were not sure what he was saying so he explained that a 10' x 10' x 8' tall was equal to 800cf. We said ok what does that mean. He stated that it was actually 1600cf. And that our new price would be a total of $6600.00 which is 4K above our original quote. We were not happy and he stated he could have his supervisor call us back.
Richard's supervisor called back within 2 hours. He stated that we had misrepresented the load. We explained that we had given Liz all the details that we had 2 - 10' x 10' storage buildings approx. 80% full of household goods. We also told him we were 6 hours from the storage buildings and that no one had ever asked for pictures. I then asked them to refund the $1300.00 deposit and he said that to get that back we would have to of canceled within 72 hours of booking the contract. I told him we booked it almost a month ago and this is the first time we ever heard that there was an issue. That all this time we thought our household goods would be delivered on 3/29 or 3/30. When he said he would not refund our deposit I told him I would report it to the BBB. He stated if you are going to make threats then there was nothing else to discuss.
