Was searching on boattrader.com for a new boat, found a great deal close to me. Contacted seller by phone and email to no avail, until about 2 months later Karen Martinez contacted me about the boat saying her husband had passed away and the was her reason for selling cheap. She said she recently moved to Nebraska with her daughter and eBay was handling the sale moving forward. Shortly after I received an invoice email from (what I though was eBay) regarding the $2,000 boat. I paid for four 500 dollar eBay gift card to cover the payment of the boat and shipping was said to be started shortly thereafter. Then in the next 2 day leading up to the shipment time (6:30 Saturday June 17th, 2017) I was asked for 2 separate insurance deposits because the boat was undervalued (500 for the trailer, 1000 for the boat) so I bought 3 more 500 dollar eBay gift cards. The number I reported the gift card numbers too was 8664166708 (there was additional scammer info regarding the eBay scammer portion details I will provide at the bottom of this). Phone stated they were Ebay's financial department and sounded legit at least to me. Saturday 630 rolled up and no boat delivery, could not reach the 8664166708 number until about 3 hours after the fact in which once delivery questions were pressed on the phone the person hung up and could not be reached again. I reported the incident to multiple places including eBay which froze the number on the gift cards and I am hoping to be reimbursed accordingly.
