Home Improvement - Fresh Air Duct Cleaning Reports & Reviews (1)

We are writing to complain about a company we retained, after learning about it in the Money Saver mail flyer.

We called Barrie “Fresh Air Duct Cleaning” based on the $150 offer for duct cleaning in your flyer, but now know we were scammed.

“Frank” and “DJ” arrived on Friday, Sept. 30th, 2022 in a large unmarked white service truck. We were automatically told that we were not allowed to be in the basement with them while they were doing the duct cleaning ("DJ" did the "cleaning"). They claimed that they use some chemicals that need time to air out. We sat outside on the deck as the service was being done.

Unfortunately, the story gets worse.

"Frank" did some sort of inspection of our home. He indicated there was some mold in our ducts, and that "BCM" mold treatment should be done. He said it could only be treated within a few days of a duct cleaning – because the ducts had to be completely dust free - and that nobody else would be available on that short notice, but they could do it for an additional $1150. He said it would be a permanent solution for the mold. We did not have much time to decide, and ended up agreeing.

Frank then claimed that our attic insulation needed to be improved, and that a government rebate was ending shortly. He said that his company did not do insulation, but did recommend two companies - only one of which could do the work before the rebate ended ONI insulation "Ontario Northern Insulation". We called the phone number “Frank” gave us for ONI and left a message, soon after “Keith” called back and asked to speak with the air quality inspector about the attic insulation. He quoted me after his conversation with “Frank”. We also received a quote by email from “Keith Holditch”. The quote was from "ONI insulation" and for $4835.00 plus tax. The total owing would be $4463.55 after government rebate (they would claim the rebate and deduct it from the bill). While Frank pretended to be independent, we now believe that Barrie Fresh Air Duct Cleaning is related to ONI insulation as “DJ” and “Fransesco” would be coming to do the attic insulation. Things started sounded odd and off so we started researching this company and then cancelled the attic insulation job.

It appears there are others who have had similar issues and concerns: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/avoid-pure-air-ontario-gta-1371614/, and a history of similar issues under various business names that seem to all lead to companies run by the name “Keith Holditch”.

The duct cleaning didn’t happen. The photo attached shows our ducts after the cleaning. The mold treatment can not have happened either – even "Frank" said it could not be done unless the ducts are completely clean, and as the photos show, the ducts were undisturbed. We are still out $1300 for work that was never completed and our ducts still need cleaning.

We had hoped that the Money Saver flyer came with some sort of credibility and reliability, and are disappointed and upset that this happened to us.

We are writing in hopes that the ad in the Money Saver will be removed and not allow Keith Holditch to post any more ads for any of his fraudulent companies.
