I recently rented a truck from Hertz and returned the car on time. A couple of weeks later I received a letter in the mail from what appeared to be Hertz. The letter was on Hertz letterhead and read,

"Dear_____", Thank you for being a valued Hertz customer. We are contacting you about a vehicle that you recently. Our records indicate the vehicle is overdue....If you have already returned this vehicle and believe this letter has been sent to you in error, please contact us immediately at (800) 552-8482 or email [email protected] with documentation of your return details so we may investigate and work to resolve this matter as quickly as possible...."

I called the phone number and they asked me to verify some contact info to get personal info about me. I hung up. I contacted the real Hertz company and they confirmed that the transaction was closed.

I went thru my AAA app and found info on getting a rental for the next 6/7 days for vacation. I call 1-888-464-1464 and spoke with a Victoria about the stipulations of a rental being that I've never rented due to me driving my personal vehicle. I was told I could use American express and if I didn't have one prepaid amex was just as good. After receiving this information I opted to end the call but Victoria asked me to give some personal info to start the reservation. I gave her the info and contacted her via her direct line 408-716-1517 which is now no longer in service. I did a number look up on spokeo and the number came back registered to a Ina and Nick Whitehouse in Sun Valley California

They made me buy a gift card for services that were never rendered

Received two email from Hertz stating that they were charging your CC a $1 & $6. for a pre-authorization charge. We don't have any business with Hertz.
