Type of a scam Online Purchase

The scam involves the page @theskiing on Instagram’s use of “mystery box” giveaways for their followers. They advertise these fake giveaways where if you DM them the word “win” you will be entered into a giveaway. Every single entrant is lied to, and is told that they won the second place prize, which is over $100 discounted off of their “ski/snowboard mystery box” which normally cost about $125. This tricks the user into thinking they’re getting a value when they still have to pay $25 + shipping/taxes for a “mystery box”. This results in as many users as they can being conned into thinking they placed second in a giveaway, paying $25 for a 125$ valued “mystery box”, only to be sent the cheapest possible items in their inventory, (plastic, sunglasses, stickers, etc.). The high profit margin on this scam is the reason they falsely tell as many people as they can that they placed second in the giveaway and unlocked this large discount on their heavily overpriced mystery boxes on their website. They are still doing this as of today and I have screenshots to prove it (I texted WIN with multiple accounts and both accounts “won” second place with the same copy/paste messaging). I’m not sure how many people this has affected, but I’m willing to bet that if an investigation is done on this page, a scam will be found among any other shady business practices they may be involved in. I hope that ScamPulse.com can take action on this page and any others doing a similar scam.
