Received a message on Facebook Marketplace regarding a child's dress I'm selling. Everything seemed fine until they asked where I'd like to meet up so they can have their son pick it up because they're "currently out of town now for a business trip" First red flag. Second red flag was when they said their son would contact me once "payments clears" then asked if I have Zelle so they can make the payment now, because their son doesn't have a bank for them to make payment. I had to look up what Zelle was. Instant Block!

I received a message on Facebook Marketplace regarding a dress I'm selling. They asked if the "product" was still available as well as the price (which is clearly on my post). I responded that the dress is available and the price is $150. They responded with the following which was an immediate red flag:

"Perfect ?? I'll take but I would like to come tomorrow but I'm currently busy with work, I would send a DPD letter carrier to your home to give you your money in cash and collect the item."

I responded back saying they could come to my office and indicated my business name, which handles scams, etc. I didn't think they would respond after that but then I received this:

"Perfect it works to complete the transaction, I need your

Name / Surname

Address / City :

Postal code / Amount :

Email address :

Visit time :"

I then blocked them.

Posted items for sale on Facebook, and have gotten at least messages from fake/newly made accounts, all asking for my phone number to call me. I immediately blocked each of them. Finally I decided to entertain them and ask why they wanted my number, and they replied with very broken English that there were a lot of scammer sellers. Got blocked after replying "no."

There was an offer on Facebook marketplace for a free piano. When we contacted the person (who said their name was Barbara Williams), she said she was moving, her husband had died, and she didn't feel right selling his piano. She wanted it to go to someone who was passionate about playing piano. She said that the piano was already being moved but that she would have us contact the movers and have them re-route the piano to us. She then provided a link to https://fslfreightgroup.com/index.html and told us to put a code in the chat window, which would then start a conversation with the movers to re-route the piano to us after we made a payment for the shipping changes.

I posted pillow covers on Marketplace for sale today and I received an immediate response from Jenny Jenny asking to verify if I was fake. They asked me for my cell and then sent me a Google verification code. I received the code and then sent it back to Jenny Jenny on the instagram thread. The person disappeared immediately and then I assumed I was scammed. I should have known from the immediate response that this was a scam. What can I do to protect my account?

NOTE: no phone number nor email was associated with the Jenny Jenny account

I was asked to verify my phone number with a code they sent to my cell.

Then they asked for another cell phone for my husband to verify again.

Facebook Marketplace ad placed by me. Received immediate reply asking if item still available. Asked for my phone# and to send a Google verification code. Then asked for another cell phone # as the "first one didn't work". No further information given to them.

I posted a motorcycle for sale on Facebook Marketplace. A supposed buyer, Marie Gomez Horan, sent me a Facebook Marketplace message stating she wanted to buy the item and asked for my e-mail address to send a Zelle payment. Next, I got an e-mail supposedly from Zelle stating the transaction was "pending" because the amount exceeded my account limit and that I needed to upgrade my account for $1,100. The buyer (Marie Gomez Horan) sent me a screen shot of the same e-mail and told me to call the Zelle customer support number to upgrade my account. This didn't seem "right" to me so I researched Facebook Marketplace scams. Sure enough, this is a common scam, grrr. Lesson learned...Do not give your e-mail and/or phone number to any Facebook Marketplace members!!!
