I got reached out to by a Barnes Thomas explaining I had applied for a work from home job as a data entry clerk and download Microsoft Teams to reach out to a Tanisha Chen who was the “hiring manager” for the company. I was told I’d get called by a Whitten Scott but he messaged me through the app instead saying he was the “training supervisor”. They asked for all of my information (i.e. full name, address, email, ID, etc etc) and said it was for background checks, when I asked a few questions they defensively asked if it looked like a scam although I didn’t imply it. They told me I’d get a mailed check for all equipment I’d need and sent me a tracking number for it; I asked why they couldn’t send it to me through direct deposit and they said the manager wasn’t available and to just trash the check.
