He reached out to my business email saying he found my contact information on Yelp! and wanted to hire me to photograph a wedding. He listed the details of the job and asked for a quote. When I sent him the quote, he said he would send me a check for 50% of the total as a deposit. When I asked him to pay the deposit over PayPal, he refused.

I got suspicious at this point and gave him my registered agent address and my LLC name. I got an email from my registered agent saying a check (for the wrong amount) was sent to them. When I confirmed to the scammer that I received the check, he asked me to send him the difference, and that it was sent on accident and was meant to pay the caterer.

I suspected this was a scam, and it was confirmed when he asked me to send him money back. I haven't destroyed the check yet, but I haven't deposited it either. Made the scammer aware that I am indeed smarter than he is.
