The victim was searching for a simple recipe when she clicked an ad which directed her to a browser capturing fake scam website, with a pop-up that said "Your computer is infected! Call Microsoft Tech Support!", and then listed a phone number.

Panicking, she called the number and the scam company (CREDRE on the bank statement - claiming to be Microsoft Support) answered, proceeding to lie to her and tell her that her computer had 17 hackers inside it who were working tirelessly to steal her banking information, using tricks like showing her IP address and her computer's internal services and terminals to make it seem like she was under attack and had to act quickly.

They then told her that they can fix her computer if she pays their invoice for over 400 dollars (more than the cost of her computer), claiming they would provide 3 years of protection. Notice the invoice they sent does NOT include any "protection", since this too was a lie.

None of what they claimed was true. The only action that they took was installing an ad blocker on her browser, all while lying about hackers and using classic scamming and conman techniques to scare her into acting quickly and without thinking. They provided no real services, offered no true protection, and lied directly to her many times.

When the victim tried to call them to cancel her three years of protection, they insisted they could not transfer her directly to their billing department and that the billing department would call back within 5 minutes. After waiting hours, the victim again tried to call and ask them to refund her money, during which they began to get hostile and claimed that she would be receiving a call from the billing department soon.

That call never came, and all follow-up emails were ignored by the company. One of the emails they provided in their invoice was a fake ([email protected]), and the other one was either not willfully ignored or is also entirely unattended.
