I saw an ad listed on LinkedIn for a mystery shopper position around the Chicago area. I applied to the ad and received an email from the provided email address claiming to be someone named Sean Nyhan. He said that I had been selected for the research group participants and that I should send my name, phone number, address, and occupation as a response to confirm the next steps of the process. He sent a follow up email asking me to set up my direct deposit for payment in which he asked for my credit card number, CVV, Expiration Date, the last 4 numbers of my Social Security, and other personal information. I did not provide this information so I am unsure if he would have used it to scam me, but I messaged him saying that he doesn’t need this information to set up direct deposit and that he is trying to scam people. He sent an email back about how the credit card process works and furthered his attempt to steal my information.
